About Our Unique CRO

Founded in 2014 by three highly experienced former AstraZeneca scientists. Aptus Clinical is a specialist clinical CRO with particular expertise in the design and execution of early phase trials in oncology, advanced cell and gene therapies and rare diseases.

Our decades of practical experience in working to the highest industry standards mean that we bring a deep understanding of the range of challenges every clinical trial brings. We work alongside our clients as an integrated part of the team to help reduce risk and accelerate the process of bringing new therapies to market.

Our flexible approach is tailored to meet the diverse needs of our clients. Clients ranging from large pharma and biotech to academic centres and venture capital backed start-up companies. We are continually expanding our global footprint to offer our services worldwide.

Co-Founder Directors


Dr Steve McConchie

Steve has worked in clinical development for nearly 25 years with AZ where he successfully delivered numerous oncology and haematology clinical development programmes. Since forming Aptus Clinical, he and his expert team continue to support the design, conduct and delivery of innovative early phase clinical studies in oncology and rare diseases. He is a member of the Scientific Innovation and Advisory Committee of the Bioindustry Association.

Jonathan Lewis

Chief Commercial Officer
A time proven project leader and line manager with 30 years’ industry experience in UK and Sweden. During his career he has worked across a broad range of disciplines, including clinical, laboratory and sales and marketing. This spans numerous therapeutic areas, including respiratory, oncology, CNS, infection and ophthalmology. Since co-founding Aptus Clinical, Jonathan has helped build the business and grow the client portfolio.

Anita Cawley

Chief Governance Officer
Anita trained as a pharmacist and has 22 years’ clinical research experience. This is across all development phases and with various pharma companies including GSK, Sanofi Winthrop, 3M and AstraZeneca. Since co-founding Aptus Clinical, Anita has brought her decades of functional experience to establish a highly effective clinical operations team. As well as, implementing a fully integrated procedural infrastructure for client support.

Chris Ravenscroft

Chris has extensive experience in industry having spent 19 years with ICI, during which time he worked across several businesses in both the UK and Asia Pacific. He held senior positions in Sales and Marketing, Manufacturing and Corporate Planning as well as General Management.

Juliet McCarthy

Human Resources Director
A highly experienced HR professional with a successful career background across a number of sectors within blue chip and SME. An excellent track record facilitating organisational change, coaching leaders in driving improvements in business performance.

Karen Sanville

Head of Clinical Services
Karen Sanville is our Head of Clinical Services. She spent 26 years at AstraZeneca, where she headed up UK Clinical Operations before moving to Quintiles as Vice President, Project Leadership Oncology.

Stuart Morris

Finance Director
Stuart Morris is our Financial Director. Over 25 years in financial leadership, including >15 years as Finance Director for SME across various sectors, including several​ non-executive directorships.

Amy Greatorex

Human Resources Business Partner
Amy is a Human Resources professional who is passionate about the people function and what can be achieved through brilliant leadership, effective and meaningful organisational design and truly understanding people and putting them at the heart of a business. Her focus is on strategic partnering with business leaders to positively influence and impact business outcomes by making work more rewarding for all.

Louise Scott

Director of Clinical Services
Louise has a PhD in Molecular Medicine from Keele University and BSc(Hons) degree in Applied Biochemistry from Liverpool John Moores University. She has more than 13 years’ clinical experience across Phases I to III in addition to 10 years’ experience in Oncology and Stem Cell basic research.

Pippa Lord

Senior Finance Business Partner
After graduating from Leeds University with a BA Hons degree in Physics, and then an MSc in Finance, Pippa went to train as a Chartered Accountant, qualifying in 2006. Pippa has 16 years post qualified experience across both practice and difference industries, including 7 years at Kellogg’s where she held the position of European Overheads Business Partner. Pippa has a broad range of accounting experience including personal tax, audit, financial controls and financial planning & analysis. Pippa joined Aptus in Jul 2017, and has since expanded the finance function to include an accounts assistant.

Enablement Lead
Over 20 years’ experience in process improvement solving complex problems with innovative solutions in the clinical operations space.

Tessa Clarke

Risk Governance and Compliance Director
Tessa Clarke is our Risk, Governance and Compliance Director and has more than 20 years’ experience in clinical research. She has also been extensively involved in supporting and managing our Quality Management System.

Will Rose

Contracts & Proposal Director
Experienced bid manager across a variety of industries including aerospace.

Proud to be one of just nine commercial partners in the prestigious Innovate Manchester Advanced Therapy Centre Hub (iMATCH), a consortium that focuses on improving patient access to safe and effective advanced therapies. Members include The Christie, Manchester University and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

We are the only clinical CRO member of the UK’s Advanced Therapy Treatment Centre (ATTC) network that works to accelerate take up of advanced patient therapies

We are a supplier to the UK Government’s Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult independent centre of excellence, established to scale up cell and gene therapies by bridging the gap between scientific research and product commercialisation
